Review 1:

Despite being open for nearly two years and being just down the road from me, Night Train Pizza has stayed under the radar of my Nashville pizza joint roster. But after tonight, it's earned a permanent spot near the top of the list. We ordered "The Tracks" (as a part-time train enthusiast, I loved the train puns on the menu) breadsticks and upgraded to the cheesy version. They were good but similar to what you'd find at any pizza joint. I actually found the marinara sauce served on the side to be more flavorful. But the breadsticks were fine. After much deliberation, I ordered "The NTP," the Detroit-style pizza that comes with bianca (white) sauce, provolone and mozzarella cheeses and a topping of red sauce. Wow oh wow. I admittedly haven't had too many varieties of Detroit-style pizza, but this was amazing. There were so many wonderful flavors and textures happening with each bite. The crust was crispy on the edges with hints of charred cheese but soft and chewy in the center. The two types of cheeses were hot and flowing off the crispy corners of the pizza. I should have eaten it with a fork, but I couldn't help myself. It was so good. I'm not sure what the bianca sauce consists of, but it was savory and slightly tangy. The service was okay -- I think this would probably make for a better takeout or delivery meal rather than an eat-in meal, but I'd eat the pizza wherever it was served. It was that good. Although there were several other pizzas that sounded delicious, it will be hard for me to go back and not order the NTP. I guess I'll just have to go back -- a lot.

Review 2:

Nothing is more upsetting to me than bad pizza (its unpatriotic really...) but luckily Night Train pizza does it right!  Night Train Pizza in the Gulch has thin crust oven-fired pizza, salads and desserts for a simple but good menu. They have a few beers on draft but a substantial list of bottled/can beer and also a decent selection of wine. They do take-out (place on their website), delivery (through Grub Hub) and dine-in. There is a bar area and many tables with red and white gingham printed tablecloths which reminds me of an old school pizzeria. The ambiance is casual but comfortable. There were several sports games on so you can hang-out and watch what's on TV. We came late night on a Saturday night around 10:30 (they close at 11 pm) and the staff were really nice and accommodating. There were a few other people in here when we came but the server took our order and was quick about returning. Our pizza took less than 10 minutes to come out as well which we were surprised it was so quick!  My boyfriend and I ordered the 14" Cornelius pizza which was perfect for two hungry people. This pie has spicy tomato sauce, fennel sausage, roasted red peppers and mozzarella. Some pizza places tend to go really heavy on the cheese where you take a bite and constantly have strings of mozzarella hanging out of your mouth. Not Night Train. They balance the ingredients so that everything is perfectly proportioned. We both really enjoyed this pizza. Conclusion: Just as Jason Aldean sings in his song 'Night Train' "I've been thinkin' bout you all day baby" I have been thinking about this pizza all day, baby (I can't be the only person who immediately thought of this song when I heard of this place right?) There are a lot of great pizza places in Nashville but Night Train has a place among the top contenders. The service, quality of pizza and ambiance were all great which is why the experience was so good.

Review 3:

Gah I'm torn with this one, but I've given Night Train Pizza 3 tries and there are hits and misses. First miss: service has always been slow when I've been here. It sucks, but one time we were sitting at the bar and completely overlooked. Sigh. And all 3 times I've been here I've been HANGRY. Second miss: I do rate pizza places by their margarita pizza and there's is just OK. I would steer away from it. Also... from experience, steer away from customization. I swapped the sausage on the Cornelius with the pepperoni and that was a big mistake. The sausage is much better on it, so I'd recommend sticking with the menu and don't try to customize. I think they know what they do well. Speaking of what they do well: Music City Star, Music City Star, Music City Star! I cannot get enough of that pizza. It's legit, the meat comes from a local hamery, and it's just incredible. Every time I've eaten here I've wanted that pizza and regretted not getting it! They also offer cheap wine and a nice selection of local beer, and overall it's a good spot. I need to sample more of the menu and am excited it's now an option in the Gulch!
