Review 1:
From as far back as I can remember, I always wanted a coal fired pizza place nearby and then just last week a friend made me an offer I couldn't refuse: Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza. We went to the wonderful little joint, right in the middle of Carrollwood- perfect place to take the family. The smell of the sauce ( cooked just right) hits you like a short elderly woman from the old country and even makes you cry out "Maamaa!" Ok well if not literally, then you're at least thinking it - you're nostrils are bathed in the aromas of peppers, garlic, meat, and most important baking crust. The pizza here is delicious, made at 900 degrees and served family style, it is to quote one associate "to die for." I had the meatball pizza, the Paulie's Special, and the eggplant. All were fantastic, but Paulie's made my tastebuds sing louder than Sinatra and more beautifully than Caruso. They use fresh ricotta cheese on their pizza, all ingredients are so fresh the chef has to give em all a smack upside the head and tell them to behave. But in all seriousness, the coal fired oven makes a world of difference in the pizza business. This isn't cardboard with sauce and space age goo poured over it, this is how pizza should be. This is justice. Don't spend the rest of your life as a shnook , try it out! Nine out of ten members of the organization agree ( we've been looking for the other paisano for a while now). Go once and bada bing! You'll be hooked on the joy of Anthony's for life- they bring the joy of eating and family together very well.
Review 2:
Anthony's Coal Fire pizza is my offices go to spot for takeout lunches and has some of my favorite specialty pizzas in town. My personal favorite is a white pizza topped with roasted cauliflower. It is exceptionally delicious and why it leaves everyone at my company going back for more. They also have fantastic appetizers that are seemingly common until you try them. Our favorites are the wings that are made with a rosemary herb blend which come with caramelized onions and the ribs that are tangy and slightly vinegary. Nothing ordinary about these two appetizers! They also having a catering menu that you can order from if you choose. They offer delivery for orders over $130 as well. I highly recommend if you want to try unique specialty pizzas and appetizers.
Review 3:
Anthony's coal fired pizza is one of the few restaurant locations within Tampa that has this style of pizza. It's great for dine in or take out, and has a totally different method of preparation, with a far more authentic new york Italian taste than from those other fast food chain pizza franchises. The pizzas here cook super fast too. They come out piping hot from a coal fire oven. The menu consists of thin crust or thick crust varieties, and red sauce or white sauce combinations. The seating area is spacious and clean, and has a family style feel to the ambiance. I came with a friend for a late lunch/ early dinner time meal, and at the time we were seated the place seemed pretty calm and low key. The place sure filled up fast in no time though, so I could tell this place is popular with the Carrollwood locals. We had the large thin crust pepperoni pizza and a salad that was big enough for 2. I also enjoyed a glass of Gabbiano Chianti wine which was delicious. My friend ordered a glass of Coors light and looked refreshing. Everything was delightful. My only critique had to be the pace at which our dining experience seemed. There were times when I felt rushed to hurry up and finish my meal and glass of wine. Our server was courteous and knowledgeable of the menu, and I know she was doing her job. But in that, I also felt there were overly frequent checks to our table to see if we would order anything further and also brought the check before being finished eating which gave the impression that we ought to take a hint and check out soon. This is understandable for a smaller restaurant establishment like Anthony's, but also makes for a rushed in- dining experience not conducive to a date or best friends meet up with a longer than 45 min one on one conversation over dinner unless you steadily order more food and drink. The food is memorably tasty though, and I'll come back for more, but may just do carryout next time.
